Creator's Corner » Dominance - Roger Evans
Tell us about your sci-fi web series.
Dominance is about people and the choices that they make; especially rash decisions. It explores what can happen when we only consider our loved ones and overlook others and the overall domino effect that can occur. It's "Crash meets the Manchurian Candidate".
Where did the idea/concept for your web series come from?
The idea for Dominance developed out of the US military posturing following 9-11. I was intrigued how we have developed smaller and deadlier tools and inventions for war. And how we rarely consider the "collateral damage" of warfare.
Name some of your sci-fi influences. Any favorite movies, TV shows, novels?
Some of my favorites are the Andromeda Strain, Colossus the Forbin Project, Dr. Strangelove, the Outer Limits, and the Twilight Zone.
Tell us about the technical production of your show. What camera & equipment did you use? Editing software & hardware? For visual effects, etc?
Several HD cameras were used in shooting Dominance: the Sony PMW-EX1 & HVR-V1u, JVC GY-HD100u. Editing was achieved with Adobe Premiere CS3-CS5 with the Genarts plug-ins. We did the 3-D work utilizing Poser, Daz ,and Vue. Other software we used during post-production included Syntheyes, Mocha, After Effects, Particle Illusion, Swish, and PhotoShop. Our computing power was via a variety of PC's with up to 8 Core Xeon processors.
Can you tell us any interesting facts or trivia about your show? Any funny stories?
The research that was done on the project validated the technology we were using. Much of it started out as just speculative at first but ended up being strangely prophetic by the end. The Caduceus nano-scopic device we used evolved from four programs giving it an almost organic feel.
